30 Days of Lolita - Day 5

10 Items From Your Wishlist

Oh boy, this will be a fun one, I get to post all the pretties! I'm going to post my top 10 for this, which is going to be harder to narrow down than I initially thought.

These are a mixture of stock images and google search images (if I could not find a stock photo)
  1. Whipped Cream Kitty Kitty JSK by Haenuli
I LOVE this print and  hope to obtain it one day, in really any color. This photo actually shows my preference in color from L to R (but I really would be happy to own it in any color, and then hunt down a preferred colorway from there)
  2. She is Sleeping shirred JSK in black by BTSSB
I love applique prints, and unfortunately I am limited to the full shirring pieces by Baby, since the older pieces are wayyyyy too small, which limits which items I can own of their applique pieces. This is also a friend in my local comms dream dress, so realistically the first one I ever find will go to her, and then I will continue to hunt one down for myself (I have even maybe considered the white for myself, if I can find it)
  3. Ribbon Heart Bag in black by BTSSB
Just their traditional bag, in all black. This has been a dream item for a while, I have just never gone ahead and ordered one. I'd probably also like to eventually own it in black/white as well, for the ultimate oldschool feel <3
  4. Black Usakumya rucksack in black by BTSSB
I have the Kuma Kumya backpack and adore it, I'd love to own the black/blue version of the Usakumya backpack (or, you know, just all the mascot bags in general. But this one is top priority)
  5. Sweet Ribbon Strawberry shirring JSK in black by Angelic Pretty
One of three dream dresses I want from Angelic pretty, but this is the one I have actually seen in person and just adore even more. I love the pattern and the cute detailing.
  6. Horror Bat Bag in gold by Angelic Pretty
So this is an interesting one, because not only did I miss out on the initial release of this, I missed out on BOTH made to order releases (due to my own dumb hesitation). Talk about frustrating! I have the mini bag from this set in silver, but I just really want the bigger version (in the other color) too!
  7. Gloomy Bear Apron by BTSSB
Much Gloomy, such ridiculous, best oldschool, wow. Kidding aside, I kind of really want all the Gloomy BTSSB collaboration items eventually.
  8. Cotton Candy Shop JSK in black by Angelic Pretty
That sheep in the hot air balloon, I have nothing else to defend wanting this with.
  9. Marine Border shirring JSK in red/blue by Metamorphose
I have the black/pink version of this and really love it, so I have to obtain it in the other colorway, logically.
  10. Secret Cake Factory shirring JSK in black by BTSSB
Another applique that I love, and I've seen a photo of an ALL black version (but no stock photo) and I'd really prefer that one over the white lace shown in the stock photo here.
Well that was fun. I still sort of just buy things that come along that I like, and have not gotten to the point with my wardrobe where I'm just specifically hunting for pieces. I might try to add some of these this year if I run across them though.

30 Days of Lolita - Day 3

10 Things You Hate in Lolita

This is a little difficult, as there is not much I don't enjoy about this fashion and hobby. Most of these might be more annoyances than anything.
  1. Calf (tea) length skirts (I dislike these aesthetically because I love the traditional silhouette of knee length items, and I also just really don't like items that hit in between the ankle and knee area in general)
  2. Excessive cross motifs
  3. How much my wallet cries over yet another expensive hobby
  4. White lace on a black print dress (unless specifically meant to be a black and white themed dress)
  5. The color yellow
  6. Having boobs (and the constant struggle for the perfect fit with dresses because of them)
  7. Wearing Lolita in hot, gross weather
  8. Severe lack of perfect petticoat poof
  9. Shipping costs
  10. Drama llamas

Lolita 52 Challenge - Week 2

5 Movies for Lolitas

  1. Kamikaze Girls (2004, Tetsuya Nakashima)
This one is obvious, and will probably always be in lists like this. It is the most mainstream movie in Western culture that actually features a real lolita in the film. It is fun, quirky, and entertaining. I enjoy watching it sometimes for the amusement of how most of the things Momoko (the main character) does is considered "ita" now.
  2. The Duchess (2008, Saul Dibb)
I love historical costume dramas, and this is one of my favorites. The styling used for Knightley's costumes in the movie are amazing, and the drama is fantastic.
  3. Elizabeth (1998, Shekhar Kapur)
Again, historical costume dramas FTW. My favorite historical period is anything Tudor related, and this movie definitely does Elizabeth's story justice. The whole movie is just beautiful.
  4. Black Swan (2010, Darren Aronofsky)
I love Portman in this suspenseful film, with wonderful costumes and storyline.
  5. Labyrinth (1986, Jim Henson)
Growing up, I definitely viewed this movie as a fairytale romance, with stunning visuals (including of course, David Bowie)

30 Days Lolita - Day 1

Happy New Year everyone!

To start off the New Year, I have decided to do the 30 Days of Lolita (originally from The Random Lolita). This one might be a bit harder for me to keep up with (being a daily one) but I am going to try my best to power through it!

10 Things About Your Lolita Bubble
  1. I first found out about lolita when I was in middle school, around 2003-2004, through the internet where I found photos of these gorgeous people in gorgeous dresses and it led to me watching Kamikaze Girls in 2004-2005, which solidified my love of the fashion, even though it would be many years before I started collecting and wearing it.
  2. My favorite brand is Baby the Stars Shine Bright. I always have and I always will forever have a soft spot in my heart for this brand, partially because it was the first brand I discovered (and actively stalked the website before Google translate days, just to look at the photos) but mostly because I adore old school and love their styles the best when it comes to this.
  3. I am the Moderator of the Northwest Arkansas EGL community, and I am very lucky that it is filled with such awesome people that I'm able to be friends with, one of which I actually met at work!
  4. The spare bedroom in my home is my "lolita room".
  5. I work full time and attend school, so I try to make the most out of the meets I am able to attend and participate in.
  6. This year I got over my fear of buying from Japanese auctions through shopping services and I may have found a new addiction.
  7. I have seen a few "internet famous" lolitas, but was too shy to say hi to most of them. The ones I did say hi to have been very nice though, and I was at least brave enough to briefly say hi to Misako Aoki!
  8. My wardrobe is primarily a Sweet wardrobe, even though this was not my initial intention. My wardrobe just sort of gravitated this direction and I still find it amusing.
  9. I have to have matching sets when possible, usually a main piece with the headwear (the matching purse is an added bonus). I actually have turned down items I've wanted because they didn't come with the matching headwear.
  10. My dream dress is Wonder Story from Angelic Pretty (it will never fit me, but I wish there was someone local that owned it so I could see it in person more often)

2016 Lolita Resolutions

A New Year's post in preparation for the New Year! (how original, I know haha)

I normally do not make any kind of resolutions for the new year, mostly because I know myself well enough to realize I am not going to just automatically start doing 20 things differently just because I tell myself it is a good idea haha.

With lolita though, this can be different. The state of my lolita wardrobe directly affects my ability to participate in the community, so if I wish to continue to be active, of course it would have to adapt and change to my needs. So I have decided to make some lolita resolutions for 2016.

I will just go ahead and state that the main resolution that I am going to try to stick to is:

STOP BUYING JUST MAIN PIECES YOU CRAZY GIRL

I have spent the majority of the effort of my wardrobe into main pieces, honestly because they are the easiest to buy and always have the "ooh pretty!" factor to them. What I want to spend a focus on for 2016 is blouses and accessories so that I can actually create more coordinations and get the most use out of these main pieces that I have. The lack of versatility has really gotten to me towards the end of this year, so I am hoping I can naturally stick to this one. It is going to be hard, and the only exception I am making is if Haenuli comes out with something I adore, and that is only because her items are nearly impossible to find second hand since she produces only enough pieces for what people order. Other than that, I'm going to just try my best to stay off of the second hand sales and resist the buying temptation!

The rest of my resolutions are smaller and include:

  1. Keeping up with posting regularly on this blog
  2. Getting over the fear of trimming the bangs on my wigs
  3. Make a wardrobe post (or at least start one so I can post it for 2017)
  4. Stir up more activity in my local community (I am the mod of a very small area group, so low activity really cannot be helped, but I'd like to shoot for someone planning at least 1 meet a month eventually)
  5. Become more active in neighboring communities. I have now been involved in the Tulsa and OKC comms, but I still have not made it up to Kansas City, Lace of the Ozarks, or the small group down in Little Rock.
So, I guess I have made a fair amount of resolutions for the upcoming year. I foresee them as being at least mostly accomplishable though, so bring on the new year!
